To further develop collaboration between Ghana and the Czech Republic, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia met with Prime Minister Petr Fiala in Accra.

Being the first prime minister from the Czech Republic to visit Ghana, Prime Minister Fiala is making history during his two-day visit.

Vice President Bawumia emphasized the importance of the visit and its possibilities for the two countries as she welcomed the Prime Minister and his delegation to the Jubilee House on Thursday.

“Your visit to Ghana is historic, as it is the first highest-level visit in 30 years of modern Czech Republic and your presence here in Ghana makes the occasion even more special. The visit, I assure you, will further enhance the already existing Ghana-Czech relations,” Dr. Bawumia said.

Vice President Bawumia remembered the signing of an agreement on scientific and technological collaboration in 1960 by Presidents Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Antonin Novotny of Czechoslavakia, which marked the beginning of the nations’ bilateral and commercial relations.

“Since then, our bonds of friendship have flourished and transcended diverse spheres of cooperation and partnership for the benefit of our people.”

Dr. Bawumia and Prime Minister Fiala held a productive bilateral meeting, attended by Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta, Minister of National Security Albert Kan Dapaah, and the Deputy Minister of Defense. The main topics of discussion were how to improve the current and potential areas of cooperation between the two nations in the areas of economic, political, security, health, and agriculture.

Dr. Bawumia went on to list future areas of cooperation, citing merchandised agriculture, commerce, education, and technology. He claimed that these areas have enormous potential because Ghana is strategically positioned to host the African Continental Free commerce Area (AfCFTA).

Announcing that his historic visit “is a start of a new level of cooperation,” between Ghana and the Czech Republic, Prime Minister Fiala emphasized his own happiness at the close links that his country has with Ghana.

He praised Ghana’s calm and stability and stated that it is one of the Czech Republic’s main commercial partners in Africa.

“We appreciate the stability of your country and what you do for peace, security and stability.”

Having supported Ghana’s healthcare delivery with the ongoing construction of 5 polyclinics and provision of some hospital equipment, Prime Minister Fiala reiterated his country’s commitment to Ghana’s healthcare.

“Healthcare assistance is one of our long-term priorities in Ghana,” he assured.
Before the bilateral meeting between the two leaders, a business meeting was heald earlier between a visiting Czech business delegation and their Ghanaian counterparts.
