Ghanaians have been told by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that the economy will become stable soon.

For a while now, Ghana has had an unsteady economy that has made life challenging for the majority of Ghanaians. This economic upheaval has had an impact on a number of areas, including the price of food and fuel.

In a speech to Muslims during the 2023 Eid-al-Adha festival, Nana Akufo-Addo reportedly said that the country has started to experience some changes in the economy, and that this has been made possible by the Gold for Oil Program.
“It is this attitude and commitment by the Government that have enabled us to obtain an IMF programme in record time. As you can see, we are beginning to navigate the turbulence, with our economy growing by 4.2 percent in the first quarter of 2023.”

He added that Ghanaians would soon provide evidence of how hard his government is trying to get the economy back on its feet.

“I said at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic that we do not know how to bring back lives, but we know how to bring back an economy. I stand by those words. Insha Allah, we are working to restore the economy to full health, and, Insha Allah, we shall do so.

“The currency has seen some stability lately, and, through the Gold for Oil Programme, we have seen the stability in the prices of petroleum products as well, all of which are bringing inflation down. Things are getting better, and will get better, I can assure you. Things are getting better and will get better,” he said.

The president emphasized in his speech that the country’s policies have been successful and that the economy has grown by 4.2%.

We have continued to keep the lights on, he said. We’ve kept offering free SHS instruction. Drone distribution of essential medications to remote and underserved populations has been maintained. The Zongo Development Fund has being maintained. Road construction and maintenance have not stopped. We have kept up with the Programme for Planting for Food and Jobs and our policy of one factory per district.
