The National Democratic Congress’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, expressed concerns about the Electoral Commission’s readiness for the 2024 elections.

His worries stem from apparent delays in the election preparations scheduled for December 7.

In an interview, Dr. Tanko-Computer underlined that no schedule has been released, despite there being just eight months until the elections.

He emphasized the calendar’s significance, saying it sets forth the details of the election schedule, including the acquisition of voting materials.

Dr. Tanko-Computer emphasized that in order to give everyone involved enough time to prepare, the calendar ought to have been made public as early as January.

“It seems that the current EC is not prepared for the elections on December 7,” he said, expressing his concern. The general election is in eight months from now, and this EC does not have a calendar.

He underlined the calendar’s importance and listed crucial events that must happen before December 7th, like the start of the limited registration drive and the acquisition of election supplies. “There’s no calendar,” said Dr. Tanko-Computer, emphasizing the need for process transparency.

In order to allow interested parties to properly organize, he also urged the Electoral Commission to provide clarification on important issues like nomination deadlines and registration processes.
