11, 600 basic school girls receives free sanitary pads

A unit in the Atwima Kwanwoma District Education called ‘Girls Education Unit’ has donated sanitary pads to 11,600 basic school girls in the District.

As part of the World’s Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration, the education director of the district,Mrs.Doris Ofori,stated that they wrote to corporate bodies for help to get the sanitary pads for the pupils.

According to Madam Ofori, the authorities of the distric have donated an amount of Gh¢1,000 to support the course.

She urged Parent Teacher Association(PTA) of schools in the district to help their wards to get sanitary pads for unexpected menstrual cycle of the girl child.

In an interview with the chairperson of the Girls Education Unit,Mrs. Theresa said, the number of sanitary pads at their disposal is not up to the number of pupils and so pleaded with other entities to come to their aid.

Speaking to some pupils of Foase D/A JHS who received  some of the sanitary pads expressed their gratitude to the organizers and doners for coming to their aid and also called on every girl child to keep themselves clean especially during their menstrual periods.
