Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, stressed that the Savannah Region was created to promote development for the Gonjaland rather than to sow discord.

He expressed this opinion when he paid a courtesy call at the Ndewura Jakpa Palace in Damongo, Savannah Region, to Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area.

Speaking to the Yagbonwura, Dr. Prempeh recognized the important roles played by traditional leaders throughout Ghana’s history, especially during the fight for independence.

He acknowledged traditional authorities as essential partners in Ghana’s development and praised the role they continue to play in the country’s advancement. He also pledged to work closely with them.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is committed to cultivating this relationship with traditional leaders, acknowledging their impact on determining Ghana’s future, Dr. Prempeh confirmed.

He expressed his unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential campaign, promising that the Ashanti Region is in full support of him.

The NPP’s strong dedication to inclusivity and collaboration with the Muslim community was another point he made.

Dr. Prempeh said he was confident Ghanaians will support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential campaign, just as the Muslim from northern Ghana, Dr. Bawumia, backed President Akufo-Addo from the south.

In his acknowledgement of the Savannah Region’s founding, Yagbonwura Bikunuto Jewu Soale I pointed out that it had improved social cohesion, promoted development, brought peace, and opened up commerce and employment opportunities in the region.
