The outgoing president, Nana Akufo-Addo, called to congratulate Ghana’s president-elect, John Dramani Mahama, and the two agreed on an early transition, according to Mahama.
Two days after he was confirmed as the 2024 election winner, Mahama claims that they have decided to assemble a joint transition team this week.
“I have also just received a call from His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo. He graciously extended his congratulations to me, and we had the opportunity to discuss matters related to the joint transition team. We have agreed on an early inauguration of the joint transition team as early as Wednesday, 11th December,” he said.
Shortly after the Electoral Commission proclaimed him the president-elect, Mr. Mahama made these statements during his victory speech.
He conveyed his gratitude for the work and reaffirmed his willingness to work with others and take the required actions for the benefit of the populace.
In the greatest interests of the Ghanaian people, he continued, “I conveyed him my sincerest regards and conveyed my readiness for us to work together to ensure a smooth transition.”
