The 2024 National Transition Team was formally inaugurated by President-elect John Dramani Mahama and outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, marking a significant turning point in Ghana’s political process.

The gathering, which took place on Wednesday, December 11, at Accra’s Jubilee House, marks the beginning of a planned and orderly handover of power from the NPP administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

To ensure a seamless transfer of power, the National Transition Team—a constitutional entity tasked with supervising the handover process—will be essential. Coordinating the official inauguration of the president-elect, providing access to critical government data, and updating the incoming administration on important state issues are all part of this process.

The two presidents’ meeting highlights Ghana’s long history of democracy, in which departing and incoming governments work together to maintain the nation’s system of government.

As the NDC gets ready to take government, President-elect Mahama spoke to the crowd and reiterated his dedication to promoting harmony and stability.

“Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also a short brief on issues having to do with the economy. The transitional teams will drill down further into these matters, and we are going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition.”

Similar remarks were made by outgoing President Akufo-Addo, who emphasized the value of cooperation and continuity.

“I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that his administration takes off in the best of condition.”
