A 27-year-old man who shot a motorbike rider (Okada) he hired and fled with his goods, including the bike, has been detained by police in Sehwi in the Western North Region.

According to reports, the suspect, named as Prince Yoma, hired Charles Bosompim, a motorbike rider, to bring him to Sehwi Ahibenso in the Bodi area from Sehwi Essase, an agricultural village in the Akontombra district.

The suspect, however, took a detour into a remote region, claiming he needed to borrow money from a coworker who was working at a nearby mining site in order to pay the Okada rider.

Reports said that when the suspect rode to the alleged mining location, he pulled out a locally made handgun and shot the Okada rider in the neck.

According to the news website, the victim said that after being shot, he collapsed and feigned to be dead.

The suspect then took his time gathering the victim’s belongings before escaping on the motorcycle, believing that he must have passed away.

The victim then hurried to ask other locals for assistance.

The suspect was discovered by several farmers, who transported him to the hospital in Sehwi Juaboso. However, he was then sent to the Asafo and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he is reportedly getting care.

Following a tip, the police set up an ambush for the suspect and took him into custody.

The police take from him the stolen motorbike, two Ghanaian credit cards, a gun, and other goods.
