The recent strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has been called off.
On September 4, 2024, a vote overseen by the association’s National Executive Committee (NEC) resulted in the decision to call an end to the strike.
CETAG members began an industrial strike on August 1, 2023, to put pressure on the government to uphold their negotiated terms of employment.
However, the strike’s suspension was approved by a large majority of CETAG members.
The strike action is formally put on hold as a result of this voting results, starting on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. According to CETAG, it reserves the right to change its mind if the Employer/Ministry of Education does not put into effect all of the issued Arbitral Awards by October 31, 2023.
The Association has also stated that it expects all of its members to be back at work by Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the latest.
Recall that following the strike, the Ministry of Education ordered the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to freeze the salary of CETAG members beginning in August 2023.
