Vice President Bawumia is the target of accusations from former President John Dramani Mahama, who said that Bawumia took advantage of his earnest pledges and added to the bad governance that Ghanaians are currently experiencing.
In addition to accusing Vice President Bawumia of taking ideas from his backlog of policy recommendations, Mahama criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for poor management, corruption, and a lack of accountability.
Despite Bawumia’s claimed involvement in the current administration’s bad governance, Mahama pointed out the candidate’s recent pledges to implement constitutional reforms, cut back on the size of the government, and do away with some taxes.
Mahama highlighted his own performance as President and Vice President and compared it to that of his opponent, emphasizing his capacity for accountability. He assured Ghanaians that their votes would be protected for a fair election result and promised to carry out his campaign promises, which included building a strong governance framework and assisting local companies in the digital economy.
Mahama expressed confidence in his policies and cited over sixty proposals, the 24-hour economy policy being particularly popular with young Ghanaians.
He claimed that by aiming for a more cautious and forward-looking approach to address economic challenges and create well-paying jobs, this policy offered hope for a shift from the alleged mismanagement under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
In his speech on February 23, 2024, Mahama expressed his happiness with the policy dialogue’s outcome at the NDC LAB Policy Dialogue held at Aburi’s Peduase Valley Resort. He emphasized that the NDC is prepared to submit policy recommendations well in advance of the next elections.
Mahama praised the NDC LAB for its strategic consideration of potential policy measures to improve the socioeconomic standing of Ghanaians. He emphasized the pressing necessity of rebuilding the country in the face of obstacles like rising unemployment and deteriorating living conditions.
