As Vice President and NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cut the sod this morning to begin building on a new contemporary sports complex, excitement erupted in Gambaga, in the North East Region.
The project’s goals are to give young people in Gambaga and the surrounding area access to contemporary sporting facilities and to a community hub.
Speaking at the sod-cutting event, which was attended by a large number of enthusiastic young people, Dr. Bawumia stated that the Gambaga Sports Complex will, when it is finished, especially assist the youth in showcasing their sporting abilities and provide teams with a respectable playing field.
Dr. Bawumia personally constructed the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Nelerigu a few months ago for the benefit of the locals and their surroundings.
Ghana Gas is funding the project, and Wembley Sports, the contractor, has committed to finishing it in five months.
Among the amenities are 1000-seater stands, a VIP section, fan and team restrooms, changing rooms, and office buildings.
Since taking power in 2017, the Akufo-Addo administration has constructed over 150 astro turfs nationwide, a significant improvement over the two public astro turfs Ghana had before 2017.
The Gambaga Sports Complex, will be the second astro turf and sports complex by government in the North East Region, after a similar one was constructed in Walewale 4 years ago.
