Following the recent disqualification of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate Philip Appiah Kubi, the Electoral Commission (EC) has affirmed that it will uphold the original ballot order for the 2024 presidential election.
At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, November 12, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa made the statement, marking a significant milestone in completing election preparations.
Jean Mensa stated that the EC is dedicated to a seamless, prompt procedure and that no modifications to the ballot structure are required as a result of the GFP candidate’s exclusion.
Speaking to party leaders, Jean Mensa stated that the Commission is committed to achieving all deadlines and that the printing of presidential ballots is already 90% complete.
She emphasized that the EC’s preparation is proceeding according to plan, guaranteeing that election materials would be available well in advance of the day of voting.
“This morning, we are here to inform you of the Commission’s decision to maintain the presidential ballot as it is. As you may be aware since you have representatives in the printing houses, we are almost 90 percent complete with the printing of presidential ballots.”
The party’s founder and first presidential candidate, Akua Donkor, passed away on Monday, October 28, and Philip Appiah Kubi was nominated to succeed him.
Maintaining the current ballot format reduces the possibility of logistical problems and prevents disturbance for the EC.
