In an effort to lessen cost of living, especially electricity costs, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reaffirmed his commitment to converting Ghana’s energy industry to solar power.
He clarifies that the importation of gas and oil for power generation is mostly to blame for the current high cost of electricity, which has resulted in enormous price increases for customers.
With nations making significant investments in solar farms, solar power has become popular worldwide as a clean, renewable energy source.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) claims that solar energy is one of the industries with the greatest rate of growth in the world. It has the ability to produce sustainable, reasonably priced electricity, particularly in areas like Ghana that receive a lot of sunlight.
According to Dr. Bawumia, solar energy provides a workable and long-term answer to the nation’s energy problems.
“The electricity bill has increased because we import oil and gas to produce electricity. I thus want us to use solar power to generate electricity. The technology exists already, and we have enough sunlight to produce solar power. I will create solar farms in all districts which will reduce the cost of electricity by 50%,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
Dr. Bawumia continuously emphasized lowering the cost of living throughout his campaign in the Asante Akim South on Saturday, November 16, because he thinks this will enable Ghanaians to live more satisfying lives.
In addition to advocating for solar energy, he has promised to alleviate household expenses and assist companies.
The NPP government’s Free SHS policy has benefited the people of Asante Akim South, according to Nana Owusu Ampehone, the Obogumanhene, who stated his support for it.
Additionally, he urged Dr. Bawumia to give town road building first priority if elected.
“Free SHS has come to assist the Asante Akim South’s chiefs and citizens. When we vote for Dr. Bawumia, we merely beg him to build our town roads,” Nana Owusu Ampehone stated.
