John Mahama, the president-elect, has pledged to look into the deaths of some people during the just held elections.

Concern at the reported deaths of four people during Ghana’s elections has been raised by the US government.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased and called for a thorough inquiry into the events in a statement issued on December 10, 2024.

Mr. Mahama claims that if the departing government does nothing, his administration will look into the death.

He stated that individuals found guilty would be subject to the full force of the law while meeting with a European Union team.

While acknowledging the election’s overall success, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of accountability.

“We are happy about the smooth successful election we had. Unfortunately, there were a few incidents that have marred it – a few deaths. It is our intention to investigate what led to the deaths of those people.

“And if people are culpable, then, they need to pay the price for what they’ve done.

“And so as soon as things settle, I hope that this government will start to investigate those incidents. But if that does not happen, we will do it as soon as we come into office,” Mahama stated.
