21% increment in cocoa price per bag disrespectful to farmers – PNC

According to the People’s National Convention (PNC), the government’s 21% increase in the producer price of cocoa is an insulting and disrespectful act.

“The difficulty in the economic system which is substantiated by the high cost of goods and the continuous increase in petroleum products should have compelled the cocoa board to increase the price of cocoa for the 2022/2023 cocoa season to at least 40%,” said Mark Ewusi Arkoh, national youth organizer for the PNC.

Instead of GHS 800.00, this would have increased cocoa prices to a minimum of GHS 925.00.

The PNC urges COCOBOD to urgently evaluate the price increase because the “increment is a trifle compared to the tremendous toil of the Ghanaian Cocoa Farmer this season.”

According to the statement, the nation is in danger of losing fields to galamsayers because some farmers have apparently already sold over their land to them.

“Farmers find it challenging to control the price’s proceeds.

If cocoa farmers are unhappy, productivity in this industry will suffer as well.

Every day, more farmers express disappointment.

In light of this, the government ought to act swiftly to examine this price increase in order to preserve both our water bodies and our third-best export good.
