Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former minister of finance, says he is prepared to contribute his knowledge in macroeconomics without charge to assist Ghana’s struggling economy in recovering.
He said that if the government calls, he would be ready to provide volunteer services that help relieve Ghanaians’ suffering.
“I am ready to offer that voluntary service to the nation at this point in time when called upon. I will offer the experience that I gained from managing the economy, from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and my think-thank, the Institute of Fiscal Studies, and in macroeconomics free of charge to help bring relief to the people”, Dr. Duffuor told Daily Graphic in Accra.
Dr. Duffuor mentioned the government’s Debt Exchange Program and proposed the creation of an economic national rescue team as a means of resolving the current problem.
“This is so because it has been established that no problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created the problems, hence there is a need for the establishment of an economic national rescue team to resolve the present crisis,” Dr Duffour stated.
Dr. Duffuor was appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in February 2009 after voluntarily leaving the Bank of Ghana in September 2001.
He had a brief employment with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the African Department in Washington, DC, United States.
Dr. Duffuor worked in research, domestic banking, and international banking for the first 10 years of his banking career at Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB).
He is now running for flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the 2024 elections.
After repeated attempts to revive the economy were unsuccessful, the government of Ghana turned to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $3 billion bailout to help save the economy.
