Prince Tagoe has been remanded into legal custody by the Circuit Court in Accra, which is presided over by His Honor Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, until January 4, 2023. Tagoe was a former Black Stars striker.
Prince Tagoe, also known as Prince of Goals, entered a not guilty plea to the allegation of defrauding former player George Antwi Boateng of $40,000 under false pretenses.
Even though the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa, contested the bail on the grounds that the accused poses a flight risk, defense attorney George Asamani’s motion for the court to grant bail was denied.
According to the summary of the case’s facts given to the court by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Agartha Asantewaa, the complainant is the former Ghanaian football player George Antwi Boateng, who now resides in Germany, and the accused is another former Ghanaian football player named Prince Tagoe who also formerly resided in Germany.
The accuser was formerly a footballer under the complainant’s supervision in Germany, the prosecution claims. In the year 2020, the two parties met in Ghana, and during their chats, the complainant informed the accuser that he needed to purchase a 4X4 Lexus car.
According to Chief Inspector Asantewaa, the accused individual agreed right away to import the automobile for the complainant for a fee of $40.000.00 USD, which is equal to (GHc265, 200).
She said that on January 8, 2021, $40,000 USD was sent to the accused’s First Atlantic Bank Account No. 0016531332032, which the accused admitted receiving by calling the complainant to let her know the money had arrived.
The accused then allegedly made a commitment to give the car to the complainant on March 30, 2021, but the date passed and the accused did not fulfill his end of the bargain, according to the prosecution.
She said that after that, the accused phoned the complainant and begged for an additional two weeks to turn over the car. The complainant reportedly complied.
She testified before the court that even though the two weeks had passed, the accused had still failed to import the car as promised.
He claims that on April 27, 2021, the complaint was sent to Ghana in an attempt to obtain his car, but it was unsuccessful. When the complainant contacted to request his vehicle, the accused allegedly said he was unable to import it because he had to utilize the money for more urgent personal matters.
After two weeks elapsed without the accused paying the amount due, an inquiry was conducted, and the accused was charged with the offense and brought before this court.
