The sub-regional alliance between Ghana and Burkina Faso to combat terrorism has been reinforced.
After delivering a message from President Akufo-Addo to Burkinabe leader Ibrahim Traore in Ouagadougou on December 21, 2022, Ghana’s Minister of National Security, Mr. Albert Kan-Dapaah, revealed this to press.
A senior team from Ghana, led by Mr. Kan-Dapaah, also comprised security chiefs and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Mr. Kan-Dapaah, who was accompanied by Olivia Rouamba, the minister of foreign affairs for Burkina, remarked “the two countries reviewed the strong cooperation between them and clarified to their mutual satisfaction recent reported discussions between Ghana and the United States with regard to the needed partnerships for sustainable peace in the region.”
The minister stated that both nations have reiterated their commitment to working together in the fight against terrorism and welcomed the early implementation of the Accra Initiative to help Burkina Faso defeat the terrorists who have caused the Burkinabe people immense sorrow and suffering.
“In that respect, we discussed concrete support that Ghana has pushed for Burkina Faso in the Accra Initiative and ECOWAS and called on West African States to act expeditiously on the matter” he said.
In addition, the two nations emphasized the value of aiding individuals who have been uprooted or lost their jobs as well as supporting vulnerable communities, and they urged sincere cooperation with the international community in these areas.
Burkina Faso and Ghana agreed to conduct talks more often.
A entourage of religious and traditional authorities had received Mr. Kan-Dapaah and his party.
They resolved to look into the possibilities of recurrent visitor exchanges with their counterparts in Ghana after affirming the shared histories and cultures of Burkina Faso and Ghana.
