Asante Akim North representative in parliament, Andy Appiah-Kubi has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to keep his vow to oust Ken Ofori-Atta, the troubled Minister of Finance, from last year.

Appiah-Kubi, the head of the controversial “Ken Must Go” coalition of governing party lawmakers, vowed to stop supporting government business in parliament if Ofori-Atta kept his position.

Three requirements were set forward at a conference between the MPs and the presidency that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) mediated. If these conditions are met, Ofori-Atta’s dismissal will be taken into consideration.

On February 8, Appiah-Kubi informed Accra-based TV3 that all three requirements had been met and that it was now up to the president to uphold his end of the agreement.

“The indications were not exactly the total conclusion of the IMF programme. The road maps were the passing of the budget, the approval of the appropriation and the conclusion of the first phase of the IMF negotiations which we have reached already because we have reached conclusion at Staff-Level …

“So, for all that happened at negotiations, we have delivered as one party as Members of Parliament and it is up to the president to also deliver as a contracting party.

“As far as I am concerned, all three milestones have been achieved … we have reached our end of the milestone, we expect the president to also do same,” Appiah-Kubi stated.

Ofori-Atta was unaffected by the recent reshuffle of the ministerial ranks in which Akufo-Addo nominated seven people for ministerial and deputy positions in his administration.

On February 7, 2023, President Akufo-Addo nominated Bryan Acheampong MP for Abetifi as the minister-designate for Food and Agriculture and Kobina Tahiru Hammond MP for Adansi Asokwa as the minister-designate for Trade and Industry.

Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Mohammed Amin Adam, and Osei Bonsu Amoah are the other nominees the president made for the Ministry of Chieftaincy, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Local Government, respectively.

The deputy minister-designate for Trade and Industry was also Stephen Amoah, member of parliament for Nhyiaeso.

Herbert Krapah, who had served as the deputy minister of trade, was also transferred to the ministry of energy with the same position.
