The invitation to attend the 2023 World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, Canada in September has been reiterated by the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms. Martine Moreau, who recently met with Ghana’s Minister of Energy, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.

In addition to the invitation, the two also addressed potential areas of cooperation in the energy industry within the larger framework of Ghana’s energy transition.

Dr. Prempeh informed Ms. Moreau of the Ministry’s five broad vision areas, which act as the anchor pillars of the work they are undertaking, after emphasizing the close bilateral relations between Ghana and Canada.

He emphasized that Ghana’s US$562 billion Energy Transition Framework aims to provide the most effective and sustainable pathway for fuel supply security, a diverse energy mix, and cost-effective electricity generation with an estimated medium to long term average electricity generation tariff of US$4.5 cents/kwh to accelerate Ghana’s socioeconomic development.

Dr. Prempeh asked Canada to participate in Ghana’s energy transformation story by stating that the adoption of the transition framework will result in the creation of approximately 1.4 million new employment.

In order to develop sustainable energy resources and the related infrastructure through win-win deals, he added, Ghana needs partnerships from the private sector.

The Minister stated that the Ministry will keep the sector ready for strategic investments across the whole value chain and that he had no doubt that their efforts will bear fruit as they diligently work to keep the lights on and the country thriving.
