A 40-year-old guy was pursuing a grasscutter when he drowned in the River Oda.

On Sunday, May 7, 2023, the event took place at Chiransa near Senfi in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The three hunters, Collins Agyemang, Samuel Obinim, and Kwaku Addai, alias Attah Kuma, who are now deceased, went hunting with their dogs in the jungle on Sunday morning, according to Benjamin Amponsah, the area’s Unit Committee Chairman.

The grasscutter fortunately threw itself into the Oda River, so Kwaku Addai also plunged himself into the river to catch the animal and tragically got drowned in it. “Fortunately for them, they saw one grass cutter, so they chased it with their dogs,” he stated.

All of his friends’ attempts to save him failed, so they hurried home to alert the chairman of the unit committee, who dispatched some neighbors to the situation.

According to reports, those who went to the river’s side were unable to save Kwaku Addai who was drowning.

The body was found on Monday, May 8, 2023, after the incident was reported to the police.

Eye witnesses, Emmanuel Mensah, told OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng that after multiple rituals were carried out by the village elders, the deceased’s body was pulled out of the river.

He said that it was alarming that there were no indications that he had drowned. They believed that the Sunday hunting by the river was a “bad day” and was to blame for the terrible outcome.

Kwaku Addai left a wife and three kids in the wake of his passing.
