Professor Frimpong-Boateng, a former Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, admitted in an interview that he is a victim.
He claims that the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s invitation to him is an effort to demonize him.
After being detained, he was given a GHS 2 million bail.
The cardiac surgeon claimed that although he has been treated unfairly, he has stayed committed to the work he conducted in an interview with Joy News.
Given his unselfish efforts to the nation, he claimed to be shocked by the treatment he received.
He insisted that the report he wrote, which has caused controversy, still contains the truth.
As the Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said that he saw nothing wrong with his prior actions, and as a result, his arrest by the Special Prosecutor surprised him.
He said, “I think so,” when asked if he felt victimized. What did I do wrong in this nation? This nation wouldn’t be the way it is if only 0.001% of individuals behaved in the same way as me.
Others who currently hold positions of power or influence in this nation should be aware that they will eventually be held accountable for their actions as well, he continued.
Professor Frimpong-Boateng added that after receiving the Special Prosecutor’s invitation, he spoke with some senior members of the ruling New Patriotic Party, who urged him to accept the offer.
He claimed that although there was a plan in place to deal with illicit mining, people had failed to look into it and were instead out to demonize him.
How many others have made the same sacrifices for their country as I have? Inform me. I’ve only ever thought about Ghana since I was very young. Okay, if I made a mistake, I accept responsibility. But not when you point out that someone is acting out of greed and they attack you for it. That irritates me occasionally, and I believe I won’t allow anyone to frighten me.
