James Gyakye Quayson and the residents of Assin North have received congratulations from John Dramani Mahama, a former president of Ghana and the NDC’s flagbearer, for their resounding victory in the just completed by-election.
This was said by the previous president in a tweet.
Mahama thanked the voters in the post for their overwhelmingly positive support and for rejecting the ineffective New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“A big thank you, Assin North, for supporting James Gyakye Quayson and rejecting the non-performing NPP in the by-election,” the former president wrote in a tweet.
“Your vote for Justice and Development is truly inspiring. Let’s keep working together to build the Ghana we all dream of.”
Prior to the by-election, the former president launched many campaigns in the Assin North Constituency alongside James Gyakye Quayson and other prominent members of the National Democratic Congress.
James Gyakye Quayson defeated Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) with 17,245 votes, or 57.56% of the total votes cast.
In the by-election, Charles Opoku received 12,630 votes, or 42.15 percent of the total votes cast, while Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the LPG received 87 votes, or (0.29%).
