The Akyem Abuakwa Council Of Zongo Chiefs has started a scheme to encourage talented but underprivileged students in Zongo areas Abuakwa enclaves by offering scholarships.
Additionally, the Educational Fund would be utilized to create social amenities, Islamic schools, and to encourage Christian and Muslim business owners.
During the weekend’s third quarter meeting of the Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, head of the Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs, made this statement in an exclusive interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Koforidua-based Afeema FM.

Alhaji Abubakar Umar who doubles as the national vice and Eastern regional president of Council of Zongo Chiefs expressed concern about the poor standard of education among Muslim youth in Akyem Abuakwa.
He observed that school dropout rates were high and attributed it partly to lack of financial support.
Meanwhile, qualified applicants would be required to fill a form requesting for scholarship assistance for approval from the board.
He said the creation of the funds would supplement government’s efforts in providing Free Education and the provision of structures to accommodate the growing numbers of school-going children in Zongo areas.
Alhaji Umar entreated Muslim parents and guardians to enrol their children and wards in school, provide their needs, and ensure they progressed to higher educational institutions as education was the bedrock of economic development of every nation.
Alhaji Umar also urged Muslim parents, students and proprietors of conventional and Islamic schools to strike a balance between Western and religious education.
He insisted that parents enroll their kids in Islamic schools so they might receive lessons in Islamic values.
According to him, Islamic schools played a greater role in reshaping the nation through the better upbringing of youths for the betterment of society.
Alhaji Umar has urged young people in Muslim communities to emphasize their education because, in his opinion, it will set them free and give them power for the future.
