According to Dr Tenkorang, the directorate recorded 174 maternal death in the region last year which eleven out of the figure were through unsafe abortion.

Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang indicated that the Ashanti Regional directorate will soon start public sensitisation to ensure no case of mortality will be recorded.

He said they will be visiting schools to educate the adolescent and the youth particular on abortion law and consequences of unsafe abortion to eradicate the threat.

“In Ghana, we want to strengthen safe abortion services and then do away with unsafe abortions. We need to work together to empower them to know what to do in an event of unwanted pregnancy. The campaign will educate and empower them on what to do in the case of an unwanted pregnancy.”
