His Eminence Cardinal Richard Kuuia Baawobr, the Cardinal of Ghana, passed away at the age of 63.
The Cardinal died on November 27th, according to a statement made by the Secretary General of Missionary Of Africa.

“Our confrere was taken by ambulance from the Generalate to the Gemelli Hospital at 5.45pm and we received the sad news at 6.25pm. May Richard rest in the peace of his Lord whom he so generously served,” portions of the claim were read.

The Secretary General also expressed sympathy to the late Cardinal’s friends, colleagues among the bishops, and family.

At the Santo Spirito Hospital in Rome, Cardinal Kuuia Baawobr was admitted to the hospital in August, just before the Vatican event in which he was to receive a scarlet biretta from Pope Francis.

He underwent a heart operation at that time and was released from Agostino Gemelli University Hospital/Policlinic, where he had been sent on Saturday, October 15, on Friday, November 18.
While receiving medical care at the Roman hospital, the 63-year-old was given the title of cardinal.

Following his sermon at the consistory, Pope Francis urged the congregation to pray for Baawobr.
At the end of July, Baawobr was chosen to lead the organization of African bishops known as SECAM (Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar).

Since 2016, he has served as the bishop of Wa in northwest Ghana. He is well-known in his community for his kindness and concern for persons with mental disorders in a nation where stigma around mental illness is still quite prevalent.

His diocesan street ministry, which unites parishioners with medical experts to give care and support for those with mental disorders who have been abandoned by their family, was started six years ago.
