EC sets April 30 for Ejisu by-election

Following the passing of New Patriotic Party lawmaker John Kumah, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced on Tuesday, April 30, that a by-election would be held in Ejisu.

John Kumah, a deputy finance minister as well, passed away on Thursday, March 7, from illness at the age of 45. He departed with his spouse and six kids.

Nine candidates have been authorized by the NPP vetting committee to participate in a primary on Saturday, April 6, with the aim of selecting a candidate. There has been no declaration of interest in the by-election from the opposition National Democratic Congress.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the NPP began accepting nominations. By Thursday, April 4, the deadline, all nine candidates had turned in their applications.

Below are the NPP aspirants and their balloting positions:

  1. Kwabena Boateng Esq.
  2. Dr. Evans Duah
  3. Klinsman Karikari Mensah
  4. Helena Mensah
  5. Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey
  6. Portia Baffoe Abronye
  7. Kwesi Nyantakyi Esq.
  8. Aaron Prince Duah
  9. Yaa Akyawmaa Aboagye

Evans Nimako, the New Patriotic Party’s director of elections, told the media that all nine candidates had been given the go-ahead to run, guaranteeing plenty of chances for party members who were keen on running.

“All of them should be permitted to take part in this competition, according to the Committee’s recommendation. We’ve also carried out the voting. We’ve let them know that the party’s national executives will be meeting with them on Tuesday,” Mr. Nimako stated.
