The three people accused of sharing a private video of broadcast journalist Serwaa Amihere have been charged by the Ghana Police Service.

Three people have been named by the law enforcement agency: trader Candylove Kwakyewaa Ababio, filmmaker Edem Saviour Ketti, and Henry Amponsah, also referred to as Henry Fitz.

The group is charged on four counts with sexual extortion and intentional distribution of a private video of Serwaa Amihere.

A few of the accusations include conspiring to violate the Cyber Security Act 2020 on the non-consensual sharing of intimate images and Section 23 (1) of the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 by sharing intimate images without consent.

Additionally, they have been charged with sexual extortion, which is against Section 66(1) of the Cyber Security Act 2020.

This happens in response to a video that went viral on social media a few days ago and featured Serwaa Amihere in bed with a man who is now known as Henry Fitz.

Online rumors claimed that the video was taken in 2019, a long time before the man in question got married.

In the meantime, the lawsuit claims that someone had called Serwaa Amihere’s makeup artist and demanded that she tell the journalist that she needs to pay GH₵5,000 or else some of her nude photos might be made public.

According to the lawsuit, the first accused, Edem Saviour Ketti, was the registered owner of the number used to complete the mobile money transaction.

The police said that after Serwaa Amihere paid the first threat, she received a second one from an unidentified number demanding GH₵20,000 in cash.

Nevertheless, the lawsuit stated that even after receiving the requested funds, the accused continued to release the video.

The lawsuit also claims that after Serwaa Amihere reported the case to the police, the first accused was taken into custody at his hideout in Dzorwulu after surveillance was put in place.

He allegedly acknowledged using his Ghana Card to register the aforementioned mobile money account number during the course of the investigation, giving it to the second accused before giving it to the third accused.

While investigations are ongoing, attempts are being made to apprehend Henry Fitz, who is currently at large.
