The Parliament House in Ghana and Job 600, the MPs’ office complex, are no longer receiving electricity because of an unpaid debt of GHS23 million.
The disconnection was done on Thursday, February 29, by the National Taskforce as a part of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) ongoing “Operation Zero Balance” initiative to collect unpaid debts from various customers.
The disconnection resulted from unsuccessful attempts to collect the debt from the parliamentary facilities.
Before power was restored via a generator, the outage lasted for a few minutes.
The Institute for Energy Security’s (IES) Executive Director, Nana Amoasi IV, has issued a warning about ongoing power outages in Ghana in the meantime, unless fundamental issues with installed capacity and fuel supply are resolved right away.
He emphasized that these problems have a big impact on the nation’s power industry.
Life has been disrupted by the erratic power supply, especially in Accra, the nation’s capital. Despite this, no comprehensive explanation for the outages or load schedule for public planning has been supplied by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
