The Ministry of Education has denied reports that the Free Senior High School initiative, the Akufo-Addo administration’s signature program, is being reviewed.
In an interview with Joy News, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwabena Opoku Amankwah, stated that a review is happening to determine which of the cost components the government can transfer to parents for payment.
“…we can conduct the investigation and then declare that, yes, Raymond will need to pay this much for an excellent education.
These are the goods included in that cost.
He said to Raymond Acquah, host of Upfront, “Then we will all put it out there and say this thing, we can make do with it, and it will not impair quality, this item, I think we can persuade parents to pay.”
However, Yaw Opoku Mensah, the Ministry of Education’s public relations officer, emphasized in a message on his social media page that the Free SHS program is not being reviewed.
