“Everywhere I go, I’m given a stone of vindication. Some people even light lanterns in broad daylight and shine them at me. They say they are searching for me because they have been sorely disappointed by the NPP government’s abysmal performance which is in sharp contrast to the mouthwatering promises they made in the lead-up to the 2016 campaign”, former President John Mahama has said.
“So, I am aware that the NDC will eventually succeed.”
He said that “we also lost 2020 since we all know what transpired. In response to my prayers, God revealed to me that He allowed us to lose so that He might rescue us from a deep ditch built by the NPP. He desired for the NPP to sink into its own pit.
He claimed that Mr. Akufo-Addo had borrowed a lot but had nothing to show for it.
The NPP, he claimed, had borrowed excessive amounts for nothing but spending. “If you are a leader, you must be responsible with borrowing,” he remarked.
Mr. Mahama claimed that, in contrast to the NPP, the NDC has borrowed money to erect a number of pieces of infrastructure that have now paid off their loan.
He gave examples including the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport, Kejetia Market, and several initiatives carried out at the Tema Port.
The previous president claimed that his administration spent GHS54 billion on these and other development initiatives.
He claimed that as a result of the NPP administration’s insatiable borrowing, Ghana’s debt stock, which was at GHS120 billion in 2016, has grown to approximately 600 billion.
