The nationwide continuous professional development (CPD) allowance for pre-tertiary school teachers has been significantly increased, according to a recent announcement from the Ministry of Education (MoE).
Professional teachers will receive a 50% increase in their CPD stipend, going from GHC800 to GHC1,200, while non-professional teachers would see a doubling of their allowance, from GHC1,200 to GHC2,400.
The ministry verified that payments for the updated allowances had already been made in a statement released on Monday, September 30.
The administration presented the action as a component of a larger plan to improve teachers’ abilities and expertise.
“These enhancements reflect the government’s commitment to supporting teachers in pursuing professional development and skill upgrades, ensuring they are equipped with modern skills and knowledge to deliver effective teaching,” the statement read.
The CPD allowance was implemented in 2020 with the goal of offering professional and non-professional teachers financial support so they can further their education, learn new teaching techniques, and develop their abilities.
It is a component of the government’s initiatives to raise educational standards by encouraging lifelong learning among teachers.
