“Let’s take public sentiments out of this case,” these are the words of presiding judge Her Honour Mrs Afia Owusuwaa Appiah sitting on the former housekeeper of Cecilia Abena Dapaah who has been charged with a crime.

“Hold it there! I will not Kowtow to public pressure,” “I will not treat this case differently from others. Let’s deal with this case professionally,” the sitting judge Her Honor Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah remarked.

Her Honor Mrs. Afia Owusuaa Appiah has stated that she will handle the issue as a regular case and do so properly.

She claims that she won’t have to “kowtow to public pressure” in resolving the situation, nevertheless.

The former Sanitation Minister’s home was broken into and $1 million and 300,000 euros were stolen, according to 14 preliminary allegations brought against Patience Botwe and six other people in court.

On September 19, 2023, some defense attorneys voiced their dissatisfaction in court with the prosecution’s repeated requests for adjournments without result.

Attorney Raymond Felie argued on behalf of one of the defendants that the prosecution’s request for adjournments was unjustified and that the case was of general interest and that the public was interested in learning how it was progressing.

Counsel’s comments came after Senior State Attorney Akosua Agyaponmaa Agyemang informed the court that the investigators had informed them that the duplicate case docket had been filed to the Attorney General’s office, but that office had not yet received it.

The court ruled that it would not be required to handle the situation; instead, she would handle it professionally and like any other case, regardless of public opinion.

The accused people’s freedoms are at risk, she argued, so the defense should instead take the prosecution’s accusations seriously.

Patience Botwe’s attorneys had filed a bail application on behalf of their client.

After relying on his application and the supplemental affidavit to overcome the Prosecution’s opposition, attorney Nana Addo Asrifi said that his client should be admitted to bail.

He argued that because the Family and Juvenile Court had previously approved bail for their client, bail should be taken into consideration.

The Senior State Attorney, Akosua Agyemang, stated in her affidavit in opposition that the request should not be granted.

The applicant’s assertions that the Family and Juvenile Court granted her bail have not been refuted by the prosecution, the court stated after hearing from the parties.

In order to accomplish this, the Court mandated that the Family and Juvenile Court deliver records of Patience Botwe’s case to the Circuit Court within seven days.

The fourth defendant, Malik Dauda, who is allegedly Patience Botwe’s ex-boyfriend, was given a bail bond in the amount of GHc100,000.

He must also provide two sureties, each of whom must live within the court’s territorial jurisdiction, be justified, as well.

The case has been adjourned to October 3, 2023.
