The National Sports Authority’s new Executive Director is Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah, the president of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association.
Ampofo-Ankrah takes over for Majeed Bawa, who was acting as the acting director after Peter Twumasi and Dodzie Numekevor were fired last year.
His hiring is generally seen as a calculated attempt to revitalize Ghana’s sports industry and bring new life to a long-negligible region. He is well-known for his dedication to promoting beach soccer in Ghana.
With more than 20 years of expertise in sports administration, marketing, and broadcasting, Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah is a seasoned journalist from Ghana. He became well-known at Metro TV as the host of hit shows including Ghana Black Stars Diaries and MTN Sports Academy.
Throughout his career, he has received various Best Sports Journalist awards, the National Students Awards, and the People’s Choice Awards for his outstanding contributions to sports journalism.
Ampofo-Ankrah, who is currently the Head of Sports at iMax Media Group, is the younger brother of former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.
The Ghana Football Association, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and other sporting federations will work closely with Ampofo-Ankrah in his new position as Executive Director of the NSA to address major issues facing Ghanaian sports, particularly the dilapidated condition of national stadiums, which has frequently damaged the authority’s reputation.
