Former President John Mahama has claimed that the Akufo-Addo government had abandoned every E-block project that he began in the villages (Zongos) with a majority of Muslims before leaving office.

Mr. Mahama thanked the Muslim community for continuing to support the NDC, saying: “We appreciate that support and that’s why whenever we come to power, we try to make sure that the Zongos get their fair share when we are sharing the National cake and development.”

“I’m making a promise that when we come, we will continue all abandoned projects”, noting: “Even projects that this current NPP government does not finish, we will continue and finish because they are funded by taxpayers’ money, so when you abandon them, you’re wasting the money of Ghanaians”.

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the NDC Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Stakeholders Forum in Accra, the flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress said, “When we were sharing the E-Blocks, several of them were allocated to the Zongo and Muslim communities, but many of those schools have been abandoned.”

“We have done a lot in our Zongos but we are not the type who come with a paper and read. Our people can see for themselves the work the NDC did when we were in office”, he said.

Should he be elected again, he vowed to finish all unfinished projects.

In order to foster social links and a sense of community, the forum brought together representatives of various Zongo and Muslim sects and institutions from both inside and outside the party to share their experiences and talk about issues that interested both groups.

At the forum was National Chief Imam Sheikh Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.

He took advantage of the chance to encourage all eligible citizens who haven’t yet registered to vote to use the Electoral Commission’s ongoing restricted voter registration drive.

Additionally, he warned the EC representatives against using prejudice in the test.

“Everyone came from somewhere, which is why Ghana is a strong nation,” he said. We must recognize that we are all Ghanaians and have equal rights to be recognized as such since we are unified in our diversity and traditions.
