Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the minority leader, is calling for a “thorough” and “independent” probe into the $1 million, €300,000, and millions of hidden Cedis that two house helpers stole from the residence of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the minister of sanitation and water resources.
The matter was brought to light on Thursday, July 20, when it was heard in an Accra Circuit Court, where Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, the two house helpers accused of the murder, are on trial.
The Minority has entered the discussion, calling on the Minister to take a back seat during the inquiries.
“We cannot overlook such a serious development that has the potential to undermine the very principles of probity, accountability and transparency in our governance,” the Minority Leader wrote on Friday, July 21.
“Given the magnitude and gravity of this situation, it is essential that an immediate and impartial investigation be carried out to ascertain the source and legitimacy of these funds.
“I strongly urge the concerned Minister to voluntarily step aside from her duties until the relevant state institutions have conducted a thorough and independent investigation into this matter.”
The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Member of Parliament (MP) insists that the people of Ghana “deserve nothing less than a government that serves their interests with honesty and dedication”.

Professor Hamza Adam, a member of parliament for Kumbungu, has demanded an investigation into the millions of dollars and euros stored at the residence of Cecilia Dapaah, the minister responsible for sanitation.
According to Prof. Adam, keeping money at home in excess of a specific amount is against Ghanaian law.
According to reports, Madam Cecilia Dapaah kept $1 million, €300,000, and untold amounts of Ghanaian cedis at home.
Two house helpers are accused of stealing these funds, and they are presently on trial at an Accra Circuit Court.
In an interview with the press in the parliament on Friday, July 21, Prof. Adam discussed this. “First of all it is illegal to keep certain money, at home particularly foreign. So an amount to the tune of millions will be shocking to the bone.
“I will appeal to all the sketchers who matter t investigate the matter so that we will get to the bottom of the issue because it is shocking if you look at the quantum of the amount that is alleged to be found at her residence. if we got such an amount of money we didn’t need to go to the IMF.”
Two domestic helpers of Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, are accused of stealing money and other valuables worth millions of Ghana Cedis and are being prosecuted in an Accra Circuit Court.
The couple’s chamber in their home in Abelemkpe, an Accra suburb, is where the allegedly stolen funds were found.
Between July and October 2022, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are accused of stealing the couple’s money and personal belongings.
