Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, has highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability through Project Zero and other programs included in its sustainability framework.
Among other things, Ms. Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe gave this comment during a media engagement in Accra to provide updates on MTN’s operations and plans to improve customer experience and increase connectivity. She made note of MTN Ghana’s commitment to fostering a more sustainable future and the company’s implementation of several all-encompassing initiatives.
“With respect to the environment, one key focus is the reduction of our carbon emissions to achieve net zero by 2040. MTN is therefore actively investing in solar and other renewable energy sources to power its operations, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels, and decreasing its carbon emissions. The company is also optimizing its network infrastructure and equipment to reduce energy consumption, ensuring that our operations are more sustainable” Adwoa Wiafe stated.
“In addition to these initiatives, MTN is working to promote sustainability within its supply chain. The company encourages its suppliers and partners to adopt more environmentally friendly practices, ensuring that its operations contribute to a more sustainable value chain” she added.
Project Zero is part of the worldwide effort to tackle climate change, with the goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040. MTN’s dedication to lessening its environmental impact and advancing sustainable practices is the foundation of Project Zero.
MTN’s Project Zero is in line with UN SDGs 7 (cheap and clean energy) and 13 (climate action), as well as the Paris Climate Agreement, which aims to keep the rise in global temperatures to 1.5°C. In order to allow company sustainability through increased energy efficiency, low-carbon emissions, risk reduction, and cost management, Project Zero makes use of the newest technology and service partners.
