A court injunction prohibiting the strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has been obtained by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The Association claims that the industrial action coincides with the government’s deadline of October 31 to fulfill their requests.
This comes after notice was given on October 23, 2024, regarding what CLOGSAG characterized as an extended delay in deciding on a staff pay structure that would be in effect on January 1, 2025.
Despite several discussions since then, the government has not yet made a firm offer, according to a statement from CLOGSAG.
However, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission retaliated, claiming that CLOGSAG has not yet replied to the government’s offer about the new pay scale that was given to the association.
The NLC asked the Accra High Court to issue an interim injunction against the industrial action in a case filed on November 7.
After considering the application, the court stated that “the application is granted for 10 days and upon its expiration the Applicant will have to come back to court on notice.”
