“No one party has the solution to all Ghana’s problems”- Assemblies of God Church

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has received praise from the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Ghana, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, for his excellent and dignified leadership of Ghana.

He was speaking when he invited a few Ghanaian Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery members to pay him a courtesy visit.

The purpose of the tour was to present the Former President to the new church leadership.

Additionally, it was to convey to him the church’s mission and to thank him for his outstanding leadership during and after his tenure as President of Ghana.

Rev. Wengam brought up Ghana’s social initiatives and infrastructure growth under former President Kufuor’s administration.

Former President Kufour’s bold and determined decision to lead Ghana into the HIPC, social interventions like the National Health Insurance, and the School Feeding Program among many other initiatives undertaken during his tenure as President were specifically mentioned as examples of his excellent leadership.

The visit was made to “celebrate him and to show that he is loved,” according to Rev. Wengam, who recalled praise for President Kufuor that he had seen in international circles for his role in resolving crises and election disputes in other African nations.

He said that President Kufuor has demonstrated such excellent leadership even after leaving office.

The former President was briefed by the Assemblies of God General Superintendent at the event on the Assemblies of God’s global influence as the biggest Pentecostal denomination with more than 70 million members.

The Assemblies of God have “significantly contributed to social sectors of the country, notably the educational and health sectors,” he claimed of Ghana.

Rev. Wengam also invited the previous president to his induction ceremony on February 25, 2023, and provided a briefing to him on the change program and the vision of the new leadership.

Rev Stephen Wengam also commended the government for the efforts it is putting in place to stabilize the economy. He called on the “government to bring everybody, no matter their backgrounds on board”, noting, that “no one party has the solution to all Ghana’s problems”.

Former President Kufuor told how a friend had introduced him to an AG church when he was a little boy, and that was his first encounter with AG Ghana.

He then became aware of the similarities among Assemblies of God churches.

He praised the Assemblies of God for operating their government in accordance with democratic principles.

He pointed out that the spiritual and material facets of administration are interwoven, just as God utilized the prophets and judges and subsequently the monarchical order.

He emphasized the need to value the spiritual while emphasizing that the church cannot be only spiritual by citing the Assemblies of God Ghana’s support of social initiatives like hospitals and schools.

Former President Kufuor expressed his congratulations to Rev. Stephen Wengam on being elected to the position of General Superintendent, noting his contribution to the conversation about national development and expressing the hope that his leadership would serve not only the church but also the community at large, exemplifying the virtue of servant leadership.
