NPP Caucus in Parliament kicks against attempts to remove Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as Majority Leader

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, Joe Osei Owusu, has stated that the Majority caucus in Parliament has no intentions to replace its current leadership.

As a result, Mr. Osei Owusu has urged the people to ignore any media reports indicating that the leadership of the New Patriotic Party’s majority caucus in Parliament will be changing.Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the deputy to Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, was reportedly set to take over.

In response, Mr. Osei Owusu stated that any publications of this nature need to be regarded as fraudulent.

“Majority caucus has not made any changes to its leadership, majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes to its leadership and that we are telling the whole world (Ghana) to ignore any such publications, we want to assure you that we have confidence in the leadership as they are and the status quo shall remain” he said.

The caucus will choose a successor for one of the leadership members who has been chosen as a minister, according to Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu’s further remarks.

“The change of the leadership is in the hands of the Caucus and not anybody outside parliament, the new standing orders has given the authority to the Caucus to choose their leadership not anybody outside parliament ” he emphasized.
