Ghana’s present economic problems have been brought to the attention of Mohammed Amin Adam, the newly appointed Finance Minister, by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

While expressing confidence in the Finance Minister’s capacity to steer the economy toward recovery, Otumfuo urged him to put important plans and initiatives into action.

The Asantehene gave the Minister advice on how to accomplish goals by building on the efforts of his predecessor and encouraging strong cooperation with the Ministry’s employees.

Otumfuo underlined the President’s faith in the Finance Minister while highlighting the high standards Ghanaians have for financial leadership.

“The President expressed confidence in you and has given you a mandate as the Finance Minister. Although the country is going through economic difficulties, there is hope for an economic turnaround if the right measures are implemented. Your Predecessor has put in place some measures as part of efforts to address the economic conditions I will urge you to continue from where he left off.

“You are not a new person at the Finance Ministry, you were there already. I will also urge you to work closely with the staff at the Ministry so you can share ideas to achieve the goals that have been set. Ghanaians are now looking up to you when it comes to finance issues because the President has put you in that position.

“The President made the promises to the people but you will be the one to find money to help the Government fulfill those promises. There is something called Financial Engineering and you are an engineer. Some Engineers have assumed positions at the Finance Ministry and succeeded and you can also do the same with your background.”

Dr. Mohamed Amin Adams, the Finance Minister, has been instructed by President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to finish projects that have been abandoned in the Ashanti Region.

The completion of several significant projects is scheduled for the end of the year, such as the Second Phase of the Kejetia Central Market Redevelopment Project, the Okomfo Anokye Maternity Block, and the Kumasi International Airport.

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, following his appointment by the president, Finance Minister Dr. Adams disclosed this information during a courtesy call with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“His Exellency the president has asked me to bring assurances to you, about his commitment to completing key projects government has embarked on”.

“Maternity block at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the Kumasi International Airport, Kejetia market, are all projects the president has given us directive to bring attention to them and therefore the ministry is making efforts O find money to complete the projects”.

He did, however, disclose that the projects had been put on hold because of the nation’s financial difficulties, which compelled it to ask the IMF for assistance.

He stated that in spite of the difficulties, the government is prepared to restart and expedite all unfinished projects.
