According to President John Mahama, some of the suspects in the financial scandal involving the National Sports Authority (NSA) have escaped.
He said that he had instructed security services to proclaim them wanted at his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of his second term, which took place in Parliament on Thursday, February 27.
The President believes that as state resources cannot be plundered without consequence, individuals involved in the scandal must be held accountable.
He emphasized that “such brazen stealing of state resources should not go unpunished” and promised that his administration would see to it that justice is done.
Mahama gave Ghanaians his word that his government is still dedicated to combating corruption and bolstering institutions to stop financial mismanagement.
The efforts to find and apprehend the fugitive suspects were already in progress, he reaffirmed.
In addition, the President called on all pertinent agencies to work together to recover the stolen money and stop future incidents of this kind.
He gave the country the assurance that corruption would not be tolerated by his administration and that laws would be strictly enforced to safeguard public resources.
