A $250 million loan arrangement with the World Bank to assist the nation’s energy industry has been authorized by the Parliament.
Before the break, the Minority in the House first opposed this loan.
That is meant to support improvements under the Ghana Energy Sector Recovery Programme, according to the advocates.
The Speaker was petitioned by the Majority to call two emergency sessions of the House in order to take care of pressing government business, even though the House was in break.
The Minority brought up a concern with a $90 million consultancy fee that was included in the loan arrangement at today’s session.
The NDC MPs contended that the charge was unduly expensive and needed close examination before the House could accept it.
The majority in parliament, however, spoke in favor of approving the funding.
They asserted that the issues facing the energy sector were urgent and required quick response.
