The Affirmative Action, Gender Equity Bill 2024 was passed by Parliament on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
On the last day of the third sitting, the House passed the bill by voice vote after devoting some time to making multiple modifications to it.
It is currently anticipated that the law will be forwarded to the President’s Office for ratification.

For more than ten years, the law that aims to increase women’s representation and involvement in decision-making fields has remained on the shelf.
In accordance with Clause 4 of Article 17 of the 1992 Constitution, the Affirmative Action, Gender Equity Bill also aims to promote initiatives aimed at resolving sociocultural, political, economic, and educational gender disparities in the public and private sectors.
In accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), its goal is to support the gradual rise and active involvement of women in public and active life starting at a minimum of 30% by 2030.
