Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, has been placed under arrest by the Ghana Police Service due to his suspected involvement in the disruptions that occurred at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 11, 2024, during the current Limited Voter Registration Exercise.
According to reports, one person was hurt during the disturbance and is presently in a hospital getting treatment.
According to a news statement from the police, they are looking for more suspects who may be related to the crime.
Police acted quickly in response to the disruptions at Kukuom during the voter registration procedure, which resulted in the parliamentarian’s detention. While investigations are ongoing, the precise extent of Mr. Dauda’s suspected role in the disturbances has not been made public.
In due time, more information on the current investigation, any more arrests or charges connected to the event, should be made public.
With a goal of adding 623,000 eligible voters to the electoral register, the limited voter registration exercise began on May 7, 2024, although in some registration sites throughout the nation, there have been instances of legal infractions.
Adugyama in the Ashanti Region, Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, and Cape Coast in the Central Region were among the locations where disruptions had occurred, according to a different police news release.
The statement denounced the events and issued a warning, saying that those who commit these crimes “who engage in such acts shall be dealt with accordingly.”

The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, for his alleged involvement in the disturbances which occurred at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise, on Saturday 11th May 2024.
One person sustained injury and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Police are in pursuit of other suspects in connection with the incident.
