Over 793 craftsmen from the Suhum Municipality in the Eastern region received free training thanks to a partnership between the Suhum Municipal Assembly and the Aseda Foundation.

Over the course of a week, the beneficiaries receive free training in a variety of vocations, including fashion design, soap making, cosmetology, and catering.

The goal of the training program, which is jointly run by the Suhum Municipal Assembly and the Aseda Foundation, is to make sure that underprivileged youngsters who want to learn useful skills receive instruction in the chosen profession.

The Suhum Municipal Chief Executive also gave certain fashion designers 30 sawing machines as necessary equipment so they could train more unemployed kids in the region.

Following their extensive training, the graduating trainees received certificates from the municipal Chief Executive, hon Margaret Darko Darkwah, at a brief graduation ceremony conducted at the Suhum community center on July 1, 2023.

In a side-by-side interview with journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari from Afeema FM, the Municipal Chief Executive, Magret Darko Darkwah, stated that the Assembly was taking numerous measures to raise living standards to ensure that residents, particularly the unemployed youth in Suhum, benefited from President Akufo Addo’s job creation agenda.

According to her, the Assembly was using the success of the Aseda Foundation in the Western Region to achieve a crucial objective of livelihood empowerment.

The Suhum Municipal Assembly agreed to work with Aseda Foundation and gave financial support to provide for the acquisition of certificates, learning materials, and tuition fees in order to meet the MCE’s obligation to create jobs for young people.

The MCE assured Ghanaians the assembly would ensure that the recipients were properly qualified for the employment possibilities that had been provided by the government.

The MCE urged the women to have courage and ambition in their pursuit of higher goals.

“Do not let anyone or anything obstruct you from being determined enough to aspire for greater things as a woman because it’s God who will let things happen as long as you are alive, let your dreams remain resolute. Do not let the negative things you hear underrate you that you are a common hairdresser because what you will account for in the future is the most important thing,” she said.

Bernice Ohenewaa, a hairdresser who was one of the beneficiaries, urged the participants to put their newly acquired abilities to use by saying that she wanted to learn more practical skills so she could assist others.

With the hope that her new career as a soap maker will help her double her daily income, Bernice Ohenewaa, who learned soap making, is eager to develop her talents in order to raise her standard of living.
