Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas filed an application with the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling by the High Court that had dismissed his lawsuit for defamation against Kennedy Ohene-Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central.

The five-member panel, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, denied the certiorari application, which asked for an order to overturn the High Court’s ruling, by a vote of 3-2.

Justices Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Samuel Asiedu, and Chief Justice Sackey Torkornoo made up the majority; Justices Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu and Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi dissented.

Media reports claims that although the Supreme Court stated that the decision’s complete rationale would be accessible at the registry by March 4, 2024, it did not provide it at the time of announcement.

But the Supreme Court turned down Kennedy Agyapong’s attorney’s requests for costs to be awarded against Anas.
