Three significant projects in the Ashanti region have been suspended, but the mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Samuel Pyne, has revealed that this is not due to financial difficulties.
He claims that although the government could have easily funded the projects, it chose to put a stop to construction because of ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Delays in three significant projects have alarmed some Ashanti Region citizens.
These initiatives include the second phase of the Kumasi International Airport, the Kejetia Central Market, and the KATH’s 500-bed maternity and pediatric block.
On Thursday, April 13, 2023, Kumasi Mayor Samuel Pyne made this statement during an interview on Captain Koda’s morning program Nyansapo on Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM.
“I can promise you that the suspension has nothing to do with financial difficulties, just as I indicated earlier, funding for the projects has already been obtained by government, but on-site work has had to cease owing to the IMF negotiations,” the statement continued.
He promised that once the country reached an agreement with the IMF, construction on the projects would begin right away.
