By the end of September 2024, the Technical University Senior Administrators’ Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) would have threatened a national strike in the event that their demands are not fulfilled.
TUSAAG revealed its dissatisfaction with the government’s disregard for their collective bargaining agreement in a statement dated September 8, 2024, citing many broken commitments.
As a blatant infringement of human rights, TUSAAG pointed to the government’s unwillingness to carry with the Ministry of Finance’s May 2024 directive to apply improved allowances for senior members of public universities.
In July 2024, an addition to their collective bargaining agreement was agreed; however, the revisions have not yet been put into effect by the government.
The group also claimed that public university common stipend payments made to unions representing the same class of workers were discriminatory.
TUSAAG requests payment of agreed-upon prices for vehicle maintenance, off-campus, gasoline, utility, and sanitation/security allowances.
In the event that these payments are not included in the confirmation of September 2024 salary, TUSAAG has decided to call for a nationwide strike.
