Writing to Chief of Staff to dispose cars and other assets unlawful – PAC Chairman declares

Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee Dr. James Klutse Avedzi says the practice of writing to the Chief of staff at the office of the president to dispose of assets is wrong in law.

It has become a practice where state institutions who want to auction cars and other assets write to the Chief of Staff for authorization.

Speaking at it sitting this morning, Dr. Avedzi warned that although the practice had become the norm, there is no law which backs such practice.

The chairman stated when the Management Nuclear Regulatory Authority appear before Public accounts committee to Answer questions on 2021 Auditor generals report.

The practice was also deemed unlawful by Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, a committee member and the MP for South Dayi, who is involved in a legal dispute over it.

He stated that even though the court has not yet made a decision, he feels that the Chief of Staff is ineligible to participate in any asset sales under Act 663 as amended by Act 914.
